Legal redress
If you have a valid complaint about a faulty product and
you cannot agree a solution with the retailer, the only
option may be to seek legal advice.
If your claim does not exceed €2,000, you can use the Small
Claims Procedure. Lodging a claim costs €9.00 (this fee is
non-refundable) and you do not need a solicitor. Contact
the Small Claims Registrar at your District Court or go online at www.smallclaims.ie. They will
try to reach a satisfactory agreement between you and the
retailer or service provider. If this cannot be achieved,
he will bring the matter before the Court.
The CAI Advice/Information Service can give general advice
on purchasing rights.
